The Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research is introducing a new grant Program called Innovations in the Public Awareness of Anthropology (IPAA). We received an invitation from ICSU on behalf of EU Joint Research Centre to the annual conference on "Building a Resilient Europe in a Globalised World" to be held in Brussels on 30 September 2015. Professor Gordon McBean, President of ICSU, will be a speaker (europa.eu/!Nx36hF #EUResilience).

As an outcome of panels organised by the IUAES Commission on Anthropology and Environment at the Manchester and Chiba congresses, the following volume was published: Averting a Global Environmental Collapse: The Role of Anthropology and Local Knowledge (Ed. by Thomas Reuter, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2015)

Russell Bernard, Honorary Member of the IUAES, sent us information about online courses on research methods that are offered through the University of Florida's Distance Learning Program. These courses are available to anthropologists and students all over the world to be trained to train others in systematic data collection.

"Bibliography on World Anthropologies" has been compiled and published by the AAA Committee on World Anthropologies (CWA).

The AAA Committee on World Anthropologies (CWA) is launching an initiative to bring together course syllabi on topics relevant to the development of world anthropologies.

The intellectual biography of Andrew D. Spiegel, a member of the IUAES Executive Committee, has been published: South African Anthropology in Conversation.

The website for Inter-Congress 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand, has been launched. The call for papers will be open from 1 November 2014 – 15 February 2015.

IUAES 2014 with JASCA in Chiba, Japan, was completed with a major success. 937 registered delegates gathered and discussed the general theme of "The Future with/of Anthropologies". There were more than 1,400 participants from 59 countries.

We decided on next two Inter-Congresses. The Inter-Congress 2015 will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 15-17, 2015. The Inter-Congress 2016 will be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on May 4-9, 2016.

The result of IUAES Election is in. Faye Harrison became IUAES President, and Subhadra Channa and Noel B. Salazar became Vice Presidents. See the announcement here.

The election of the President and two Vice Presidents starts on October 3rd and closes on November 1st, 2013. All members in good standing of the IUAES will receive a passcode for voting with instructions by e-mail from the administrator of the election.

At the IUAES General Assembly meeting on August 9 during the seventeenth World Congress in Manchester, the host of the eighteenth World Congress in 2018 was decided by the vote of IUAES members in good standing.  The result was as follows:

Thus the eighteenth World Congress of the IUAES in 2018 will be held in Florianópolis, Brazil, and the Congress Organizer will be Miriam Grossi of Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). In accordance with the Statutes, she immediately became member of the Executive Committee.

In response to the call for nominations of candidates for Honorary Members, we received the following nominations and the proposal to have these distinguished scholars as Honorary Members of the IUAES was approved at the meeting of the General Assembly held on August 9, 2013.

At the meeting of the Council of Commissions held on August 8 during the World Congress in Manchester, the Head and Deputy Head of the Council of Commissions were elected by the vote of the chairs of IUAES Commissions.

IUAES welcomes and encourages submission of proposals to establish a new Scientific Commission. We have already received a number of proposals for starting new Commissions. These and incoming proposals need be approved by a two thirds majority vote of IUAES member in good standing through an electronic vote later this year.

Alan Morris of the University of Cape Town contributed an obituary for Human Biologist Phillip Tobias who passed away in June 2012.

We do not assume any responsibility for anything related to the conferences organized by WASET.

The revision of the IUAES Statutes was approved by the votes of National Delegations.
